- JDS-Notes for AMALIA/MOLLIE JOHANNES:
She is suspected of being an illegitimate daughter of Maria Sophia Schengel later adopted by Johann Jacob Johannes.
Obituary found on the Internet: Mollie Nuss, daughter of Jacob and Maria Sophia (Schengel) Johannes, was born March 22, 1898, in Kukkus, Russia. Her death occurred on March 22, 1984, in the AlaFern Nursing Home after several years of failing health. Her age was 86 years. Mollie came to the U.S. with her parents when she was four years old. She received her basic education in the schools near the family home, and on May 4, 1920, was married to Adam Nuss at Milberger, KS. This union was blessed with one son, Marvin. Mollie moved with her family from the farm to Russell in 1940 when Adam began his carpentry trade. Mollie continued her work as a housewife, homemaker and mother, and for a number of years worked in the diet kitchen at the Russell City Hospital. She was a member of St. John Lutheran, Russell. After the death of her husband, Adam, on Nov. 13, 1976, she continued to live alone for a time until her health failed and she could no longer take care of herself. She then became a resident at the AlaFern Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; son, Marvin who died on April 16, 1982; a half-brother, Sigmund Karst; and four step-sisters: Bertha Peil, Hannah Popp, Dolly Lang and Amelia Nuss. She is survived by: three stepsons: Caesar Nuss, Russell; Herbert Nuss, Great Bend; Elmer Nuss, Valdosta, GA; two half-brothers: Henry Alvin Karst, Hutchinson; Herman Karst, Olmitz; sister Katie Radke, Wichita; half-sister: Marie Kramer, Hoisington. Other survivors are her daughter-in-law, Donna Nuss, of Amarillo, TX; and 2 grandchildren, Dane Nuss of Amarillo and Mrs. Gary (Marsha) Cooper of Enid, OK. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, 1984 from the church, Rev. Herman Frerichs officiating. Burial church cemetery. Pohlmans Mortuary, Russell.
