  jds notes-He and his wife and two of her children by her first marriage sailed on the SS Mount Carroll from Hamburg on 21 Jul 1923 and arrived at NY, USA on 2 Aug 1923. His contact in Europe was his friend Roman Nickel at the "homecoming," i.e., refugee, camp in Frankfurt an der Oder, Germany, and his contact in the USA was his uncle Philip Rietz at Box 407 in Fresno, CA. Last residence was Frankfurt [an der Oder]. His birthplace and that of the children was given as Kukkus, and his wife's was Bangert, though it is almost certain that the children were actually born in Lauwe. His obituary notes that he was the father of six, five living, although actually two of the living were his wife's children by her first marriage.
