She is indicated as the mother of 4, 4 living, in the 1910 Kansas Census. All of these children are in the household, with 2 being from her first husband Johann Jacob Johannes (or perhaps 1 illegitimate and 1 from him), and 2 from her second husband. She and her husband are each indicated as on their second marriage, married 6 years.
Obituary found on the Internet: MRS. MARIA S. BOXBERGER - Maria Sophia, daughter of Henry and Maria (Becker) Schangel [sic, Schengel], was born September 6, 1876 at Kukkus, Russia and departed this life on August 23, 1969 at The Hoisington KS Lutheran Hospital. Her age was 92 years 11 months and 17 days. She was baptized in early infancy, later confirmed and after attaining womanhood, she was united in marriage to Jacob Johannes. In 1902 they immigrated to America and to Lincoln, Nebraska, and then to Rocky Ford, Colo. The following year her husband died at Rocky Ford and sometime later she came to Galatia, KS and was married to Henry Karst, also a widower. Mr. Karst also passed away on December 2, 1933. There were two daughters by her first marriage and three sons by the second marriage. With her duties as a farm wife she was also the mother to five step daughters, along with her own children. On January 3, 1940, she was again united in marriage to Peter Boxberger at Russell and she made her home here in Russell. Mr. Boxberger also preceded her in death in October 1952. She continued her residence here until she suffered a fall in April 1967 and was hospitalized until she recovered and entered the Homestead Villa Nursing home at Hoisington on June 1, 1967, where she resided until the day of her death. She was a faithful member of her church and remained active in church circles and home work until suffering this fall 2 1/2 years ago. Surviving her are the two daughters, Mrs. Adam Nuss and Mrs. Arthur Radke of Russell; 3 sons, Sigmund Karst, Herman Karst, both of Hoisington; Alvin Karst, Hutchinson; five step daughters, Mrs. Bertha Peil, Liberal, Kan., Mrs. Hannah Popp, Hoisington, Mrs. Dolly Lang, Milwaukee, Wis; Mrs. Edward Nuss, Russell, and Mrs. Chris Kramer, Hoisington. Also three step daughters from the Boxberger marriage, Mrs. George A. Dumler, Mrs. Alex Dumler, and Mrs. Herman Langholz, all of Russell. 15 grandchildren and 22 step grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Memorial Service: Held Monday, August 25, 1969 from St. John Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. following a brief family service from the Deines Funeral Home at 1:30 Rev. R. G. Sedo, officiating. Organist: Mrs. Howard Vladar Hymns: "Jesus Still Lead On" "So Nimm Den Meine Handa" Casket Bearers: Leland Nuss, Marvin L. Nuss, Leonard Karst, Harry Radke, Herman Lee Karst, Ronald Karst, Clinton or Wayne Karst, alternates. Laid to rest: Lutheran Cemetery at Milberger. Services entrusted to: Deines Brothers Funeral Home.
Note found on the Internet: Notice of her death is recorded in the Death Records for St. John's Lutheran Church in Russell, KS. It reads, "Boxberger, Maria S. died 23 August 1969 from coronary occlusion, age 92 years 11 months 17 days, buried in the Milberger Cemetery."
