    Philip Werner Service Held Here Monday
    Funeral services for John Philip Werner, a resident of the Ritzville community for the last 51 years, were held Monday at the Danekas Funeral chapel in Ritzville. He was 88.
    Interment was at the Ritzville Memorial cemetery. Rev. R. W. Rieger officiated at the service. Pallbearers were Ben Hilzer, Pete Greenwalt, Arlo Verner, Lawrence Hilzer, Vic Hilzer and Arnold Schragg.
    Mr. and Mrs. Werner had celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Jan. 29. He died in the Adams County Memorial hospital Thursday.
    Mr. Werner was born in Warrensburg, Russia, April 3, 1871. The couple was married in 1891 and came to Winnepeg, Canada, in 1908. The next year they moved to the Pete Kramer farm near Crab creek.
    He retired from farming and carpentry work 10 years ago after he underwent an operation.
    He was a member of the Zion Congregational church.
    Mr. Werner is survived by his wife, Katie, at the home; three daughters, Mrs. Phillip Kukes of Toppenish, Mrs. Carl Thaut of Ritzville, and Mrs. Bill Koch of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Alex and Ruben of Ritzville; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
