He emigrated to New Netherland, where in 1652 he married Grietje Jans, who came from Ditmarsen. They registered banns of marriage in the Reformed Dutch Church of New Amsterdam on 6 October 1652.[1] In 1678, Greetye Jans, wife of Jacob Petersen, was an heir to the estate of her brother, Carsten Jans Eggert, receiving 150 guilders in wampum, as well as a share of the portion of the estate that was shared by his three surviving siblings and a nephew.[2]
